" Half Of A Yellow Sun " is a film I have been waiting to see, finally came out on DVD in July. The book by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichi was an award winning book, now translated to film by Nigerian director Biji Banele , staring Thandie Newton ,& Chiwetel Ejiofor who is also of Nigerian descent . This is a first ever commercial film did in Nigeria( not to be confused with Nollywood films) although film crews & studio are a part of Nollywood system from what I heard. This is wonderful African cinema, & hope many support it ! It deals with family, love of country, independence, than the start of the Biafra war, that tore Nigeria apart.

Look like a winner nice to see Africa's film industries picking-up their game. Anansi, I feel the same. I'm having some friends over Wed, to watch the film, for I want to expose more people to this film. One of the issue's of the film of course, is the Biafra war. I remember it, for I was in my early 20's in 67, but did not really understand all the nuances of this conflict. What the film has done for me & I'm sure for others, is to read up, on the Biafra war, so I can have a better understanding at this time in history. what I did pick up, that the seeds of this war, did not go away, is still the undercurrents of whats going on in Nigeria today! Between the North mostly Muslim & the south mostly Christians.
