Melanin theory is a pseudoscientific theory, founded in the distortion of known physical properties of melanin, a natural polymer. The theory posits the inherent superiority of black people and the essential inhumanity and inferiority of white people. It is a discredited form of black supremacist theory.
Several black supremacists justify supremacist assertions by assigning dubious properties to melanin based on pseudoscience and distortions of scientific fact or speculation. This body of belief is known generally as "melanin theory". The central idea of the melanin theory is that the levels of melanin in dark skin naturally enhance intelligence and emotional, psychic and spiritual sensitivity[1] and physical prowess.

==== This is from: WHO. www.who.int/uv/publications/en/UVIGuide.pdf 1. UV radiation levels are highest under cloudless skies but even with cloud cover, UV radiation levels can be high. 2. UV radiation is reflected or scattered to varying extents by different surfaces, e.g. fresh snow can reflect as much as 80% of UV radiation, dry beach sand about 15% and sea foam about 25%. 3. Clean snow reflects up to 80% of sunburning UV. 4. Prolonged human exposure to solar UV radiation may result in acute and chronic health effects on the skin, eye and immune system. 5. UV radiation-induced degenerative changes in cells, fibrous tissue and blood vessels lead to premature skin ageing. UV radiation can also cause inflammatory reactions of the eye, such as photokeratitis. 6. While non-melanoma skin cancers can be surgically removed and are rarely lethal, malignant melanoma substantially contributes to mortality rates in fair-skinned populations.

INJECTION OF MELANIN NANOPARTICLES COULD MAKE HUMAN BODY RADIATION-RESISTANT Researchers have successfully tested a technique that uses melanin-coated nanoparticles to protect bone marrow from damage commonly sustained during radiotherapy. One of the major downsides of radiation therapy, which is commonly used to shrink cancerous tumors, is its harmful effect on normal cells. Now, thanks to research done by scientists at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, doctors may someday use melanin-covered nanoparticles to administer higher doses of radiation to cancerous cells without compromising the healthy ones. Ekaterina Dadachova, Ph.D., and her colleagues at the university recently tested the particles in mice, which responded well to the technique after exposure to radiation. www.popsci.com/science/article/2010-04/melanized-nanoparticles-may-protect-cancer-patients-radiation-damage

I think its nonsense and only plays into the whole light skinned dark skinned controversy in our community. Pretty soon it would be turned inward as you'd have darker skinned people claiming to be superior to light skinned people because of melanin content. We may call it Afrocentric, however it is really nothing more than Eurocentricity because the very concept that skin color is an indication of human intelligence etc is a Eurocentric creation. No where in Africa does such a notion exist, except where it was introduced by outside colonizers.

I agree with the first post, it's psuedo-scientific. But what you quoted here has peaked my interest, good find. Now wouldn't that be interesting.
