There is a controversy that exists today in academic and cultural spheres, mostly in Hollywood, and on college campuses:, where the portrayal of the Ancient Egyptian as a person of white European descent is becoming increasingly brought into question. This is due to the internet and one’s ability to do personal research and find out for themselves their true appearance. Cheikh Anta Diop, an Egyptologist of Senegalese heritage, and a pioneer in Afrocentrism, at the 1974 UNESCO Symposium in Cairo, was one of the first to question the racial identity of the Ancient Egyptians. He referenced The Greeks and the Romans who were contemporaries of these Ancient Nilotic people, who consistentlyconsistenently referred to them as black, and often compared them to the Ethiopians, or the “Burnt Face” ones .. Herodotus, or the Father of History, in his book “The Histories” very clearly stated that the Ancient EgyptiansEgytpains were black and of a negroid appearance. In a recent study on the kinship analyses of the PharaohPharoah Ramses III, discovered that he was of the male genetic haplogroup E1b1a, an almost exclusive Sub Saharan Y Haplogroup marker. The public DNA heritage company, DNA Tribes, which took 8 str DNAdna strands from a peer reviewed article on the Amarna dynasty, and put them through their database and came out with an almost exclusive Sub SaharanSaharran heritage of the 18th dynasty, or the Amarna Dynasty as it is commonly known. There is also some recent data (an article from Nature Communications) that points to the Ancient Egyptians being of Middle Eastern, or of Arab ancestry, but considering the conclusions were based off 151 mummies, in the Cairo area, North Egypt, it would appear that these datasets were cherry picked for the purpose of gaslighting the reader into believing the Ancient Egyptians to be Caucasoid. This paper, shall present the facts to the reader, and using the datasets from DNA tribes will give weight to the argument that the Ancient Egyptian were of African descent, and shall prove that the Nature article to be 100 percent false, and white supremacist propaganda.
Cheikh Anta Diop, is a renowned anthropologist of Senegalese origin, he is one of the most recognized Afrocentric intellectuals of our time. In his book “The African Origin of Civilization, Myth or Reality” Diop attempts to place Ancient Egypt in its appropriate geographical location, North Africa, and link it to the rest of Africa. “The Egyptians practiced circumcision as early as pre-historic times; they transmitted this practice to the Semetic world in general Jews and Arabs” (PG119) Circumcision is a common African cultural practice to this day, they even have female circumcision. “Circumcision is of Egyptian and Ethiopian origin, and the Egyptians and the Ethiopians were none other than negros inhabiting different regions” (PG119). He also linked them linguistically, by using his native Wolof as a reference point. “Egyptian expresses the past tense by the same morpheme, n, as Wolof; it has a suffixal conjugation which reappears verbatim in Wolof; most pronouns are identical with those in Wolof; most pronouns are identical with those in Wolof…It is enough to replace n in Egyptian by I in Wolof to transform an Egyptian word into a Wolof word with the same meaning (PG 132). Diop shows a table of endless similarities between Egyptian languages and the family of African languages. He also presents a mural painting (Table of Nations) in the tomb of the Pharaoh Ramses III where the Nubian is pained the same color as the Egyptian. Nobody would refute that the Nubians were not black, so if the Ancient Egyptians were painted the same color, that would inevitably mean that the Egyptians too were also black. Diop stresses that divine kingship is one of the most compelling similarities between African Kings and Egyptian Pharaohs. African Kings are considered Gods, so too were the Pharaohs of Egypt.
There was an article published by BMJ in December 2012 “Revisiting the haram conspiracy and death of Ramses III: anthropological, forensic, radiological, and genetic study” that despite not being a racial study, gave enormous insight into the racial make up of at least one Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh. This article was attempting to explain how Ramses III was assassinated. It also showed that his son was indeed a man named Pantaware. In order to do this, it needed to put out Ramses Y DNA haplogroup which is E1b1a, which is also an exclusively Sub-Saharan haplogroup. DNA Tribes took the published DNA from this article and ran it through their system, and it came out almost entirely Central African, Great Lakes populations, this paper will expand on who and what DNA Tribes is later on. However, neither the DNA tribes data nor the Ramses III E1b1a DNA result are allowed on Wikipedia’s “Ancient Egyptian Race Controversy” article, but the Nature Article data is in the very beginning of it, apparently because the Ramses III test was not a search of what race he was but a test on who his son was. And the DNA Tribes information is not allowed because it is not a Scientific journal.
Herodotus, the Hellenic (Ancient Greek) historian, born 485 B.C. ,in Halicarnassus, what is today Turkey, but then was Persia. Who Cheikh Anta Diop, cited in his book, as the major witness to who and what the Ancient Egyptians were and looked like. Wrote “The Histories” in 440 B.C., a book which would not today be seen as scientific or even historical by any measure but can give accurate insight into the behavior and cultural viewpoints of the people who existed in the classical world. To him, Ancient Egypt, was as ancient as he is to us, considering Ancient Egypt began around 4500 years ago, and he is only 2500 years from us. But even in his day, the classical period, when Alexander the Great was conquering the world, and the Greeks were only just beginning to conquer Egypt, the Ancient Kemetians, as they called themselves, were still black. “There can be no doubt that Colchians are an Egyptian race, before I heard any mention of the fact from others I had remarked it myself. After the thought had struck me, I made inquiries on the subject both in Colchis and in Egypt, and I found that the Colchians had a more distinct recollection of the Egyptians, then the Egyptians had of them. My own conjectures were founded, first, on the fact that they are black skinned and have wooly hair, which certainly amounts to but little, since several nations are so too; but further and more especially on the circumstance that the Colchians, the Egyptians, and the Ethiopians, are the only nations who have practiced circumcision from the earliest times” (pg137) We have already mentioned circumcision being the binding cultural trait between Africans and Egyptians, although it could be argued that many nations including ours practice circumcision, in ancient times this was considered an odd feature of their civilization, and was heavily remarked by the classical authors.
In 2017, Nature Communications, published an article that seemingly proved the Ancient Egyptians to be closely related to people in the Middle East, and Southern Europe, than Sub Saharan African. They extracted DNA from 151 mummies, and prepared STR with dual barcodes. From those 151 mummies, only the data from 3 were captured and tested. This article was widely publicized and gained enormous attention from CNN, FOX, National Geographic, and many other national journals. But this article is blatant white supremacist propaganda, meant to gaslight you into believing the AE were not African. We already have the DNA information from Ramses III and the Amarna family, which will be mentioned later, why did they not do a racial identity test on those mummies? They said they were only capable of testing 3 of the 151 mummies. Why only 3? If they were able to capture the DNA from Ramses III and the others, they should have been able to capture the DNA from all of those 151 mummies, but it was clearly cherry picked. In fact, it would seem they were able to get the DNA from all of those 151 mummies but chose the 3 datasets based solely on them being the only ones with Southern European ancestry. Even if they were only able to capture the DNA strands from 3 of the 151 mummies, how on Earth could that be representative of the entire Ancient Egyptian population?? It wouldn’t. They have the DNA from Ramses and the Amarna family, why have they not tested their racial identity? Is it because they know for a fact that the data would come out exclusive sub Saharan? They know that those mummies are of African descent, if they were European, they would have published that data instantly and showed it off non stop on the news, so if they wish to find their racial identity , they already have the DNA to show it, but they wish to hide it. Basically, we have the DNA data to prove the racial identity of the Ancient Egyptians, all we need to do is test it for thus.
DNA Tribes, a personal genomics and biotechnology company, a company that is now closed, one cannot even reach their website, so their findings are only available from saved files on the internet. In 2012, they published their article “Geographical Analyses of Amarna Mummies” In this article they took the STR data from a JAMA (Journal of American Medical Association) piece “Ancestry and Pathology in King Tutankhamun’s Family” and ran this data through their databases, the same database used by 23andme, and Ancestry.com. This was completely unrelated to the Ramses III article and the data therein, but it is the same company that tested both of these published DNA results. What they came up with from these datasets, was an almost exclusive Central African ancestry of the 18th dynasty (Amarna), but these findings were not published in National Geographic, or CNN, or FOX News. I wonder why? Probably because they came out with a black identity from the DNA findings. On Wikipedia they cannot publish this data, because it was not a “Scientific study,” and DNA Tribes is a “private company”. That is their argument, that it is not an “Academic” source. If that’s the case, why can’t a “Scientific” journal run this DNA data through their databases? They really should, but they won’t, because they know it will come out African, and they do not wish to crush Modern Egypt’s tourism industry. Do they fear that if people knew the true Ancestry of the Ancient Egyptian being African, that they would no longer respect Ancient Egypt? Or wish to visit it? All these speculations are unknown, but what is known is that they are actively hiding this data from the general population. Otherwise they would be publishing these facts with no issue
