Qevs, by its own account, was the name of one of the nations of ancient Sudan. Dr Leo Hansberry, one of the first DOAS academics, tells us that in a compendium of his notes published by his wife and a student.

Africa and Africans as seen by Classical Writers: the William Leo Hansberry Africans History Notebook v2 Washington DC: Howard University Press, 1977
Qevs is where the ancient Egyptians got their word Kesh. Use of Kush is from Hebrew adaptation of Qevs whom the author of Isaiah immortalized as a riverien, strong armied, nation in a land buzzing with winged insects.
Sub-Alpine Europeans knew this nation as Aithiopia or Aethiopia and held it in high regard until Nero's time.
Modern Euro terms • Cush • Ethiopia • Cushitic • Ethiopic must not be confused with the Qevs Kush and Kushites.
The Hebrews applied Kushi to nations peoples and individuals who looked like Qevs nationals including certain Arab nations particularly those along the Red Sea. They used it for some of their own, notably their prophet Zephaniah ben Kushi. To this day Kushi, in Hebrew denotes not just Horn Africans but all inner Africans and people of similar phenotype.
