Majority of Americans are clueless to the rest of the world and especially Africa that it’s difficult to correct people with so much ignorance. Egyptians classify themselves by culture and nationality first, which is Arab, since they speak Arabic and in this modern time mostly influenced by arabic culture. The western racial concept isn’t associated with that part of the world. But if they have to classify themselves by phenotype, then over half the population would consider themselves black. Those that live outside of Cairo and alot more at southern nile river Look like this; And the majority that live in the Capital and the upper Nile (Closer to the Mediterranean sea and the middle east) look like this; They vary from asiatic/european features to predominantly African features. They are as mixed as the Dominican republic, Cuba or Brazil. Cairo is known for the diversity and it’s arab/islamic influence over many centuries before and after independence from European( Roman, France and England) domination over the capital. This is what my Egyptian friends tell me and this is the case for most of North Africa; such as Morroco and Libya. Living in the UK I have come across many friends who are North African, that associate being pro-African and recognising other black cultures like African-Americans (This is the case here in the UK, might be different in the US because immigrant are literally told to not associate with Black-Americans ). But colorism plays a big part in Egypt, associating lighter(more Asiatic/European) features with hierarchy, whilst Those who live in mostly southern Egypt are darker (and less associated with the middle east) are hindered from the international media on purpose. It’s Historically known that European Anthropologists have classified North and Horn African people (Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea Sudan, Egypt and Djibouti) of being ”Dark-Skinned Caucasians”. -___- It’s hilarious, but just because they lacked the negroid/African features they’ve exploited in western society for 5 centuries, they could the classify a foreign society the way they are taught to. (This is why I hate Modern European anthropology, because they believe they have the audacity to label different ethnic groups by their ridiculous standards). As we should know by now Africa is made up of the most diverse population of people and ethnic groups, it’s hard to recognize the differences when they show you the poverty and chaos on your tv screens. When it’s time for us to do our own research, literally search the people of all 52 African countries when you have the time to.

There's no such thing as African/negroid features... Come on now....this is getting old... Although you make a valid point, you still aren't understanding the basics?

True. People from the south, not Arabs, are more related to Ancient Egyptians. The Arab conquest (as well as Greeks, Persians, etc) is something that happened much later. Not even close. Modern Egyptians, as any people on earth, are as related to Ancient Egyptians as they are related to other Africans (black Africans). Ancient Egyptians were truly (black) Africans in every sense. They were not Europeans or West Asians transplants. They were indigenous Africans. ---------- 23 killed in feud between clans in south Egypt April 5, 2014 10:36AM A bloody feud involving political tensions, a harassed girl and offensive graffiti has killed at least 23 people in two days of fighting in Egypt’s southern Aswan province, government officials and witnesses said Saturday. The clashes between an Arab clan and a Nubian family left homes torched and bodies strewn on hospital floors, witnesses said. An Interior Ministry statement said the fighting in Aswan province erupted over the alleged harassment of a girl, and after students from the two sides later sprayed offensive graffiti at a local school. Vendetta killings occasionally occur in southern Egypt, where perceived violations of honor often spark violence, but this fighting apparently raged while security forces did nothing to stop it. Nubian students' graffiti accused members of the Arab Beni Helal clan of working for the former governments of ousted President Hosni Mubarak and overthrown Islamist President Mohammed Morsi, witnesses said. They said offensive graffiti sprayed earlier this week on a school wall accused the Nubians of backing the military after a community delegation met former military chief Abdel Fattah El-Sisi – who led the military overthrow of Morsi and is now running for president. A security official said that tensions in the area also come from accusations that some Arab Beni Helal members take part in an arms- and drug-smuggling ring. Aswan is a way station for a smuggling ring from Sudan. The official spoke on condition of anonymity, as he was not authorized to speak to journalists. A Nubian resident, who asked that his name not be used because he feared retribution, said he locked himself and his family inside their house to avoid revenge attacks. He said two members of his family were killed in the fighting. "There is terror now in the area," he said. "At the outset, we'd call the police and they tell us, 'You work it out.'" Authorities said more than a dozen schools in the area of the fighting will be closed indefinitely until calm is restored. Footage from the area on social media that appeared consistent with Associated Press reporting showed school children pelting a rival group, despite the presence of an armored police vehicle before the bloodshed. Adel Abu Bakr, a Nubian resident of Aswan, said members of the Arab Beni Helal first beat a Nubian and then shot dead three Nubians, including a woman, on Friday. Another Nubian was killed later that night, he said. Following their funerals, hundreds of Nubians attacked the Arab neighborhood, killing over a dozen people using mostly sticks and daggers, he said. Health official Mohammed Azmi told private television station CBC that 23 people were killed and 12 are in critical condition. A local government statement said 31 were injured. Abu Bakr said a Nubian community center was set on fire, and other witnesses said seven homes were torched. Ambulances failed to reach the neighborhood were the two clans live, leaving bodies strewn around the area. The Interior Ministry said police officers attempted to negotiate a truce late Friday and arrested three people, but fighting resumed Saturday. Later Saturday, Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab and the interior minister traveled to Aswan to mediate. Abu Bakr said the police failed to stem the violence, and called for the army to intervene. "The (police) presence would have changed the nature of this fight," he said. A joint statement from the two clans accused "invisible hands" of igniting the feud. In a Facebook post, military spokesman Col. Ahmed Mohammed Ali blamed members of Morsi's outlawed Muslim Brotherhood movement of trying to ignite the fighting. He did not offer evidence to support the claim. Egypt's military-backed interim government routinely blames the group for violence. Yes the rest of the world is missing all those barbarian, infantile and escalating clan violence. Great lost indeed. Maybe the Sharia law could help? (you guys are kidding right?) It is what it is. I never said I had a solution. Maybe it's because I never asked you for a solution. I was talking to Azur (and you) who seemed very happy about those barbarian practices. Talking about America and Europe in a stupid way. I call it barbarian stupidity. There you have it. Do you support the Sharia law? If you can't see my post is completely on topic, you're an idiot. I'm not talking about China, or Iraq. My post is completely on topic and I will continue to post about this if I feel like it.

So what does your post have to do with the topic? Nothing..... You're making an issue out of a non issue simply becaus you're choosing to crate an argument. Why? For the fact that #1. I'm light skinned and #2. Because I I tell the truth that the Modern Egyptians are in fact the descendants of the Ancients, where as you are of the opinion that they wee all coal black and the Modern people are Arabs. #3. Because I do not ascribe to your theory that the native Egyptians got up and ran away to West Africa. Your tone has nothing to do with the topic at hand, or me really, but everthing to do with your black supremacist color complex. The fact that I tell it like it is doesn't do much for our friendship, I get it, but.... As for the off topic situation in Egypt. I wasn't giving an opinion, nor a value judgement of any kind. I just explained what this sort of thing is. I think everyone would agree that this type of behavior is wrong whether it's happening in Egypt, Congo, Liberia, The United States, China or Mexico. That goes without saying. Or were you trying to make this out to be an Arab versus Nubian issue? In which case why don't you start a thread on colorism in Egyptian society. Then at least you'd be on topic. Have a nice day. Oh to your question of whether or not I support Sharia law, (red herring. What does that have to do with anything), I'm not Muslim, I'm a Lucumi. You'll have to do your ow research to find out what that is if you don't know.

In general, the percentage of darker skinned people is much higher than in the North, where there tends to be a higer percentage of lighter skinned people. Look at the other pictures provided. The fact of the matter is that the north of Egypt was open to settlement of non Egyptians for a very long time. There are certain towns in Lower Egypt that are known to have been places where foreigners settled and intermarried with the locals. Regardless of the reasons for difference in color, this is what you have to keep in mind, these people are all related. They are all from the same gene pool. You may see a person who is very light, or tan in complexion, but their borther or sister may be much darker and visa versa. Therefore, the western idea of splitting people into different groups based on appearences is not realistic. Even among Nubians there is a variety of features and skin colors. There are Nubians who look like this: But there are also a lot of Nubians who look like this: Or this: But keep in mind that you can't make assumptions based on skin color. Very often It's not possible to distinguish a Nubian from any other Egyptian. For example Egyptian Nubian girl: Egyptian women: Saidi man from Luxor Nubian man from Aswan This is why old notions of race should be discarded, not only for Egypt, but globally. To understand Egypt, past or present, you have to define them the way they defined themselves, by culture, nationality and language. And even though Arabic has replaced the original language, its still the bonds of nationality and culture which bonds Egyptians together despite their ethnic divisions.

We say Africans and Ancient Egyptians are Africans archaeologically, historically, culturally, geographically, linguisticaly, biologically and genetically. When I say Africans I mean Africans like Yoruba, Wolof, Afar, Somali, Dinka, etc. Black Africans. Sub-Saharan Africans. People who didn't leave African during the Out of Africa migration. People having the Y-DNA haplogroup A, B and E and mtDNA L. People who are genetically close to each other. Ancient Egyptians and Africans don't just share skintones or geography. They share an history, and archaeological past, a biology, culture, etc. Ancient Egyptians were not Europeans or West Asian transplants. They were African in every sense. Indigenous black Africans. Like Yoruba, Wolof, Afar, Somali, Dinka, Nubian, Ancient Egyptians, Kongo, etc. Of course there was some admixture with West Asian people (and even European) but it was minimal since any people close to each other share some genes. The same way Ancient Greek, like modern Europeans, have some African genes. Modern Egyptians which are closer to Ancient Egyptians are those sharing not just skintones but the larger part of everything with other African people including history, archeology, biology, genetic, etc. Multiple foreign invasion and conquests including the Arab Conquest changed the ethnic composition and population structure of modern Egypt like Mesopotamia or America for example. They also changed the culture and religion. I would say those Nubian people are probably the people the closest to Ancient Egyptians in modern Egypt more so than most member of the Arab tribe with whom they have a feud with. The ethnic composition of egypt changed a lot since 5000 years ago.

I would say those Nubian people are probably the people the closest to Ancient Egyptians in modern Egypt more so than most member of the Arab tribe with whom they have a feud with. The ethnic composition of egypt changed a lot since 5000 years ago. Well then, according to your criteria, we have to exclude a considerable percentage of African Americans, (and by that I'm including Latin America and the Caribbean since that's where the majority of Africans were taken), from the African family since A: They weren't born in Africa, B: They don't speak any African languages, C: They don't practice any African cultures, D: For the most part, they don't follow any native Afrucan spiritual practices and E: due to 500yrs of misegination large segments have a genetic profile that is very dissimilar to native African populations on the continent. A considerable percentage of Afro American males for example have Y linages that are European and maternal lines that are native American. Although they are called black, they are in fact not like Yoruba, Wolof, Afar, Somali, Dinka, Nubian, Ancient Egyptians, Kongo. My Y linage is Congolese, but you'd never know it to look at me. Even less so my father unless there's a kingdom somewhere over full of white skinned Africans with blue eyes. I don't think anyone in this conversation is unaware of the fact that Egyptians were not Asiatics, but native Africans who were genetically, culturally and linguisticly related to other African populations. However, even before admixture, they were physically diverse as can be seen by statuary from the Old Kingdom, to the remains of light skinned mummies with curly hair and prognethic skulls. Skin tones varied, hair types varied and facial structures varied. It's all part of the natural native diversity of the African continent. With regards to Modern Egyptians, there is no one physical type that's representative of the entire population. The faces of Egypt are reflective of its 5000yr history. Therefore, you have people all over Egypt, not just the south or Nubia, who are identical to the statuary and monuments of the dynastic periods. You also have people who represent the absorbtion of Asiatics and very recent European arrivals too. It's all there. And as I said before, we can't allow ourselves to fall into the trap of categorizing people based on external appearances because quite often in Egypt, as in the Afro American community, you can have close family relatives who look different from each other. The person assumed to be "Arab", may not have any Arab ancestry at all while the black skinned person does. A mixed blooded Egyptian is no more "Arab" than a light skinned Afro American is English. Therefore, when all is said and done, the current complection of Egypt doesn't matter since A: regardless of how mixed an individual may be, they still have Egyptian ancestry. This is why the majority of the population still has very high levels of the E haplogroup. It's just like no matter how mixed an Afro American may be, they still have African ancestry and most importantly B: even if Modern Egyptians were 90% European or Arab admixed, (which they aren't) it still would not change the fact that the original inhabitants were native to the continent. Egyptians themselves are well aware of their history and the factors which shaped it. They've got 2 good eyes like everybody else and they know that if you're looking for a representative of the pharaonic physical types you're not going to be loking at Mahmoud Reda: But you would look at people like Mohamed Ramadan Or Nubian singer Shando Once again you can see the point I made before that you can't always distinguish Nubians from the rest of the Egyptian population based on looks.

There's no such thing as African/negroid features... Come on now....this is getting old... Although you make a valid point, you still aren't understanding the basics? I use those terms not for general accepted classification, but rather terms used by those who obviously are insufficiently unaware of Africa's cultural and ethnic demographics. I emphasis on those words merely to recognise those old terminologies to blatantly contradict their racial claims.

First of all I'm going to attempt to respond without repeating the points I've already made. My friends would lie more on the top group, all of them have beige skin but 2 with curly/kinky hair and 3 of them with straight hair. I could recognise the difference between them and Moroccans and Libyans whilst they also have an admixture. for example I have a Moroccan friend who classifies himself as Black- Arab, but looks like a very pale skinned african with an asiatic face, but kinky African hair. I am aware that a percentage of Egyptians never want to classify themselves as "Africans", Cairo locals tend to separate themselves from subsaharan-africans, out of their ignorance and imperialistic mindset that the colonial era left behind. But I believe if they were expose to the American socio and racial-construct in it's past and present day. Then they would most likely re-evaluate their recognise identity. this is the case for half of Egyptian migrants to America. Egyptian immigrant wants to be Reclassified as Black
