For the past month I have been enamored by these 2 Blasian families a term I just learned by watching these 2 families channels One family is a Korean women (Lily ) who is married to a brother from Kenya, & they have 2 daughters , the other family a little younger, is a Black women who married a Korean guy, & they have one son between the both of them, & the sister already had 4 daughters, a blended family. They are meeting for the first time; I watch both families on their individual channels, so I was glad to see them meet as Blasian families. They both are very loving families so it is a delight to watch them both. Their is a perception among many people that Asians don't like Black people, but love is love no matter who it is. I have noticed that many of the Blasian families I have seen on You- Tube are between Koreans & Black folks. I have noticed in the few dealings with Koreans that they seem to be more direct, but that is just my impression. So enjoy !
Thanks Giving with the 2 families

Circa 1920s. Marriages between Chinese men and African American women were common in Texas, in the South and throughout the Caribbean in the late 1800s.
While such families seemed a rarity in the States it is pretty much the norm on the islands, even in the U.S during the Chinese exclusion act that, prohibited Chinese men from bring over wives, they began forming relations with African American females.
Some in Chinese in the south became share croppers alongside Blacks leading to many such unions in places like Mississippi Which is how you got people like Mae Jemison AA first female astronaut.

Anansi, having lived in the Bay Area Ca. where their are large numbers of Asian with Chinese being the major Asian population...... I did not know about the Chinese men marring Black women doing the Chinese Exclusion Act. This information must have been suppressed for I have never heard any of my Asian friends of Chinese heritage speak of it in the past. San Francisco now has an Chinese mayor & the population of Chinese is now larger than any other city in America. Their has been much tension between African American population which is the lowest, &( Chinese); of any major city now. some even blame the Chinese for the soaring rents in the city because of investors from China buying up propriety left & right which has pushed out many, including African Americans. So this information might help many see a shared connection between the 2 groups . Japanese are some what different, for in the past they both have shared a community in S.F. called the Fillmore/Western addition area. When the Japanese were interned in WW11 many African American bougt many properties ( Homes) & so you have intermarriages between the 2 groups also the Japanese have a love for Jazz which the Fillmore was the jazz district in the past. Doing the past Academy Awards in Feb, Chris Rock did some jokes ( satire ) that many in the Asian community thought racist & offensive , so again this information which you site needs more sharing, I know of only one Chinese women who became a Civil Rights advocate Grace Boggs who were friends with Malcolm X, who just recently died. I know when men of any race are in a foreign country they will merry the women in that country or have children by them. I know about the Caribbean esp. Jamaica;( did not know about the South), having had large numbers of Asian & many mixed children The video I have included shows what is happening In Africa with a large number of Chinese men now in Africa, are now marring Black women. I guess I would call it marriage by default. Documentary on Grace Boggs " A American Revolutionary "

Here is a very creative take on a Blasian wedding( CJ & Jasmine ). I always love to hear other persons of African descent fluent in another language, as this brother is in Chinese, like I'm sure Anansi is in Japaneses. It's very interesting also to see this brother in ancient Chinese apparel, it reminds of Runoko Rashidi & Ivan Van Sertima book African Presence In Early Asia .

I wonder if any one here at E.S.R. noticed something about" Chris" talk on African American Culture. This is what I noticed that later in his talk which I really commend him for, his insightful view on African American Culture & linking it to Africa. He did something I have never seen before, educating his wife who is Asian, on ancient Egypt & the Mystery System, & what happened in the destruction of African Culture. I get the impression that those married to Asians always seem to defer to ancient Asian Culture be it Chinese Etc.as the dominate ancient Culture. This brother seems not to be so glamorized by ancient Asian culture, as to not introduce ancient Egyptian culture on par with ancient China Etc. Many Asian people have no real understanding of ancient African Culture; in fact many, if not all, believe the narrative of Africa having know real ancient Culture & probably believe that ancient Egypt were other than Africans, be it Middle Eastern or White. This brother surely knows his history, & is not taking a back seat to ancient Asian culture , but seems to be able to see, & intergrate aspects of both; as his example in the ancient Egyptians understanding of complements as opposed to opposites, which he states was an misinterpretation of the Greeks & his use of the Yin- Yang polarity. This to me is very important, to help others understand & contextualize our African history.

Well it should be that way no matter who you marry, first and foremost teach your immediate culture second your ancestral culture this is especially important for the kids, as they will not misrepresent what they think is African or African diaspora culture or history, it is also important that they learn their mother's side, in this they have no identity crisis and is fully aware of what makes them whole.

Chris in the video said that this information is for anyone . I made the Observation because so few people of other" races " don't know that much about ancient African history, including other Black folks. But because I happen to live in a major West Coast city with large percentage of Asians mainly Chinese, & have come across some of the attitudes that many have concerning A.A. & Africans that are are really uninformed. Years , ago in the hood was a Chinese owned corner grocery store. They had pictures of the African Kings & Queens series by Budweiser Beer all over; they even had murals painted on the outside of the store of Black ancient Egyptians. Now, I know it was about selling beer, but I also know they knew the connection between Black folks & ancient Egypt ! That is the only time I saw Chinese folks connect Ancient Egypt with Black people. If you checked out the video his wife seems totally delighted to be learning about ancient Egypt & Africa , because she loves her husband. I've seen tons of Blasians couples on You-Tube, mostly Brothers married to Asian women & this was a first. Just glad to see a well informed Black man helping to educate others about Africa & Egypt & not take a back seat of shame, or lack of knowledge about who he is, & what his ancestors accomplishments were, of the past; In doing so he is saying that Africa & Egypt can stand up to any other ancient people , or civilizations ! That's all I'm saying.

A little personal story, I sometimes get invited to speak at community centers about my heritage Jamaican and African American and the links to Africa in general, in the audience there are kids with moms and pops grand ma and grandpa, Q & A times are always the best, they asked questions like what's Rasta and why the connection with Ethiopia, then I'd go into the historic reasons about Africa's last free state, Ethiopia and one of three non white states that existed at the turn of the 19th - early 20th century the others being Kingdom of Thailand and Empire of Japan, then that would lead into some biblical lore and Egypt , sometimes we go over to the point when I had to say Ok lets stop for now, and sure enough I'd be invited back for follow ups I get into Mali Ghana and the Akan kingdoms with leads us back to the Maroons of Jamaica, so done correctly there is intense interest.

Anansi, I get that, & is wonderful, that you are able to educate those that really want to learn more about Africa & her great civilizations. But you are in Japan, not America.Over the years I've had friends both Chinese & Japanese ; there seems to be I.M.H.O. between how Japanese & Chinese seem to embrace or understand Black culture. Here in the West coast city I live in; the Japanese, & African Americans in the mid 20thcentury lived & shared a whole community somewhat in close quarters called the "Fillmore- Western Addition" area, once known as the" Harlem of the West Coast". Even now there are 2 famous Jazz clubs owned by Japanese. Japanese seem to understand at a basic level, not all but many, the importance of African American culture esp. Music & dance. There are even, Japanese Jazz musicians, who emulate & honor the tradition of Jazz . I have found that to be lacking with mostly Chinese in the city I live in. Other Asians esp. those from South East Asia, that I have meet seem to be less rigid about Black people. I had a Filipino friend who use to joke that they are seen as the N-----s of Asia. I embrace all people, because we are really all " One People", & over the years have had friends from so called other" racial groups". I consider myself a citizen of the world, although have been out side America, only a couple of times. But, I know where we are in history, & that we are still struggling to see our common humanity connected to each other through" DNA & spirit". One day we might come to that great realization of our shared humanity, but we will never make it, if one group of peoples are lift out of world history, & it's contribution to world civilization..... for that would truly be an "abomination". I also honor indigenous people of the world, for they are, it seems to me , trying to be wiped out by" global capitalism & greed ".
