Here we have another film concerning slavery " The Free state Of Jones" staring Matthew McConaughey, about rebellion of whites & African Americans enslaved who broke from the union to form their own state within a state . This is based on a real historical incident, that many including myself was unaware . Than we have a Tarzan movie in 2016, I don't believe that Hollywood would even think of doing such a film in this day & age also staring in this film is Samuel L. Jackson, go figure; but they did ! I guess they felt that with all the CGI & appearing on these super max screens, people will flock to see this crap !

Great link Nebsen will bookmark it for future reference. And yeah Elba would make a great Taharka, but at the time when he went to war for the rescue of Jerusalem he was quite young probably no more than a teenager, but him playing Piankhi would be on the money.. Ironically the dude that played Kunta Kinte could be a neat fit, the only problem he would face according to me is drawing power, if it's a theater release rather than cable. It would be great if they could put together one on Taharqua or at least the Kushite-Egyptian empire. Hell they could even tie it into a Black-Jewish thing, only this time it is black folk coming to rescue Jerusalem. That would be a real change and a much more lively challenge compared to another slave narrative. Maybe too challenging for Hollywood. I have that book and I was thinking the same thing. Add some CGI in there with star power and a great story, and you got a block buster on your hands.

I don't mind slave movies, but I am tired of seeing the ones with white Saviors and not enough showing Africans in positions of power. I would love to see a movie on the Haitian Revolution or the revolt of the Zanj.

I don't mind slave movies, but I am tired of seeing the ones with white Saviors and not enough showing Africans in positions of power. I would love to see a movie on the Haitian Revolution or the revolt of the Zanj. Danny Glover, has been in pre- production on a film called "Toussaint" about the Haitian revolution & Toussaint louverture . I don't know what happened I'll have to do some more checking on the film. This is a documentary about Toussaint & the revolution it's pretty good. I heard ( read) an argument about why we should embrace "Slave Narrative Films " It went something like this, The" Jews" will never let one forget about the Holocaust, so why should we let white America or for that matter( ourselves)forget about the horrors of slavery. As i see it the " Jews" have a history before the Holocaust ,a very ancient history that has influenced the course of Western civilization & beyond ; & they will never let one forget that either! On the other hand Black people have a far older history which also influenced human kind; & it's grandeur in scope is breath taking; " white supremacy" has made for sure that history would not see the light of day; so many of our people & others only know of the slave history as our" ONLY HISTORY" ! That's what I object too is the imbalance. The real history of the African continent is not taught in schools & when it is is more about the white mans agency in helping the poor Africans even if that includes slavery as a means of deliverance from the uncivilized "Dark continent". We have been & the world, feed a study diet of" Blacks as slaves only, & our struggle to be free & most of all human. we need the other half, about who we really were before being brought here in chains as "slaves". We built the first great civilizations had great centers of learning & culture, invented, had great men, & women who laid down the basis for a civilized society, & the list go's on, & on. I'm not talking about a history without flaws, & nuance, for like any other people, we had the good, the bad, & ugly, we are as complex as any other people so lay it all out. It would make for great Cinema ! Attachments:

Been reading about Glover's film for years and it never materialized. I read that Hugo Chavez gave him $30M to fund the project.
