Zarahan, here is Dr. Umar Johnson on the Roland Martin show a day or so ago. Like I stated I did not know that much about Dr. Umar & had time to check him out more in detail. I must agree I find him rather suspect & would not support him. I have heard his idea before many times, but he puts a new spin & it sounds new & exciting but is really warmed over concepts & ideas that have been around for a long time. Also I found a video of him using so much vile language at other black folks I could never support some one like that !! It seemed to me like two very extremes, Trump on one end, & Dr. Umar on the other, rife with narcissism unbridled egotism , & conceit , no thank you ! Designed to appeal to each gullable demographic groups.
On another note, about Christianity & religion.if I had became a Raster & it connection to Ethiopian Christianity along with Black Hebrews, I might see things very differently, but I'm not.For me all religions are suspect to one degree or another esp. religions of the Abrahamic faiths. But, each has to decide what works for them on a faith level, which makes it right for that person only.
Here is a video done by sister Anti Afro Sevengalis 1st time checking her out,so I don't know much about her; but she seems to be a real critic of Dr. Umar Johnson. She is dealing with his appearance on the video i posted of Umar on the Martin Roland show .

incidentally, I just came across an interview given on the Breakfast Club power 105.1 Dr. Umar Johnson in which he put African and Caribbean leaders on blasts for selling out to Chinese interest, which maybe well and good, but he had to take it way over the top by lying..he said: South African government gave official language status to Chinese, but not Zulu and Xhosa:
Now this is the age of the internet, information is at the klik of a button, but no one on the program challenged his mendacity, and I doubt many of his audience will double check, because he is Dr Umar Johnson. The fact is there are 11 official languages in S.A and guess what?? Chinese is not among them. Edit; earlier I had said it was Hot 97, it's the breakfast Club, i dub to both hence ma bad.

Yes, I saw that interview on the Breakfast Club & thought he made some good points on China; but the man is IMO is a thug- hustler just like the Preacher/Pimp back in the day ! Like the sister in the video I just posted, buyer beware ! !

Zarahan:I love your your envision of a defiant, justice-seeking Christianity. What I don't understand is your statement about Rev Shuttlesworth, as "braver than King." I take that as an unfair statement since MLK was stabbed, bombed and beaten in his quest for justice for all of us. All of us have our own personal heroes. I love every civil rights figure, major and minor. I think we defeat our mission when any are rated, or de-legitimized.

I love every civil rights figure, major and minor. I think we defeat our mission when any are rated, or de-legitimized. Point taken- I should not have said braver than King. I retract. I would only note that at times King shirked from battle- by HIS own admission- not someone saying it 50 years later. During the famous Freedom Rides for example, when the buses were being burned out and protesters attacked, black activists, particularly the student activists, urged King to join them, but he remained in the safety of Atlanta or elsewhere. This is one of the things that caused the younger generation from SNCC and CORE to question King and how he operated. Shuttlesworth though, supported and worked closely with the Riders, coming out of the hospital after a brutal beating to send squads of rescue cars, putting them up, providing food, transport, communications, escorts, and so on. King was a no-show, when his presence, and the resources he would have attracted, could have helped immensely. King also drew criticism about the way he sometimes chose to bail out of jail, rather than do the hard time and run the risks Shuttlesworth and other fighters were enduring. See Kings bio by David Garrow- "Bearing The Cross" or Taylor Branch's work "Parting the Waters" for some of these incidents that even King felt guilty about. Remember this is not just my opinion, King hisself had regrets on some of these things, including the way Shuttlesworth, who was always on the front lines, and could not just fly out for a press conference somewhere, sometimes never got sufficient credit or press. During the famous March On Washington, Shuttlesworth, who had laid his life on the line for civil rights was not even on the speaker's list, though some white clergymen who hadn't done a tenth of the work were. He only got some "fill in" speaking time when there was a delay over the "fiery" parts of SNCC's John Lewis' speech. Still no one can say King did not do his part- so you are quite right. I take back what I said as to that phrasing.
