Not really a Rap or Hip Hop fan I'm a generation ahead but remember my 1st time hearing Rap when I lived in N.Y.C. ( Brooklyn ) in the late 70's I liked the beat but was unaware of the musical revolution that would take over the music scene & the world.. I liked the early conscious Rap esp . Public Enemy..by the time Gangster Rap took over I was done ...but did not know about A Tribe Called Quest wish I did..so here is a piece about them & a new book..!

Quest had a unique sound fusing rap, jazz and R&B, and it was a positive sound without the HOs, blunts, biotches and dead nigg*#s% of the emerging dominant "gangsta" style. They are similar to outfits like Arrested Development in the 1990s which did progressive, political, positive rap without all the obscenities, sex and "dead nigg%$#" violence modes.
