Yeah I remember this one from reruns years after it came out, back in the day - Shaft and the "Lord Jim" guy, lol.
It had a good ironic twist. Rather than the noble white guy tutoring the backward savage, Shaft, in the end, its
Peter O'Toole as RObinson, representative of "civilization," who gets schooled.
A good one I have seen in reruns is CATCH THE BLACK SUNSHINE.
One of the characters is the guy who played the warrior training leader in "Roots".
But he changed his name by the time "Roots" came along to Ji Tu Cumbaka.
I dont know why the website below lists it as a "blaxploitation" film. Could be how it was marketed. It would
not win any awards but it actually has a fair plot, a theme of redemption, struggle etc etc, unlike some of the
cheaper drek that passed for film in those halcyon days of the 1970s. WHo can forget such masterpieces as
"Panther Kung Fu"- a cheap cash-in on Panther notoriety and the CHinese martial arts boom? lol Then there
was the whole BS "Mandingo" line of films..
