A true picture of who they are and when they came is difficult to gauge there are some scholars like Dena marniche and others who are of the opinion that they may pre-date the Arab-slave trade era, www.egyptsearch.com/forums/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=8;t=006919But in regards to their modern politics they need to be careful of aligning themselves too closely with any U.S president given volatility of the country and where they could be abandoned by U.S short term political interest in the region. In a similar vain a Bedouin tribe declared that President Obama is one of them. If anyone has been following my comments online I have developed strong mis-givings about the man but..damn!! if only he would truly lead.

Know matter how one feels about Obama & his politics, one thing is for sure. The man & what he has done, has inspired people of African descent all over the world. They may not understand the in's & out's of America politics, but do understand him as a symbol of hope, & possibilities for their on lives.
I was just reading an article about the rise of Black Brits & other people of color in Britain politics, like never before, some have called it the "Obama Affect ". Personally I'm glad that he & his family is having that affect on African peoples around the world !

And yet many Black Power groups in America say he's white washed due to him being half-white.
There's extremes to everything.

Skeptic that i am, I had misgivings about him from jump street. How could I not? The power structure didn't change, so what does that alone tell you? It's not like Adam Clayton Powell won the White House.Ironically, Powell was far more White than Obama, but he was also far more Black if you know what I mean. No way in hell someone like him would have been elected. Still i voted for him on the grounds of well, maybe he's for real and I can't deny there was a certain emotional moment when he did win. However, he's not showing me much. I think the story is interesting for another reason though. It shows how ancestral legends are created. People claiming descent from a prestigious person. They convince themselves that there are connections and see what they want to see, believe what they want to believe. I just hope they are not hurt in the process of political skull duggery and macjhiavelian tactics.
