I have afro-puertorican ancestry, but is from the west side of Puerto Rico, which has les african ancestry than the east side, and the afro-descendats of the west side are more mixed than those of the east.

Its interesting how certain parts of the islands are known for having greater concentrations of mixed people. My folks come from St Elizabeth and Clarendon. I wonder why certain areas have such pockets like this. Like why is it that there is more mixture on one side of P.R than the other? I've heard that the same is true in the D.R

I've heard that the same is true in the D.R There is more mixture on the west side because slaves came also form the lesser Antilles, so the region more near the lesser antilles is the east side of Puerto Rico, on the west side there were many european inmigrations alongside that there is a strong Taino Amerindian presence on the west side more.
