This movie's not set to come out until 2013. My guess is to find the right caste and such. It'll be weird to see Will Smith try and fit into a more serious role. My guess is they'll have a 6'3 buffed out Will Smith followed by legions of beautiful women.
Anyways the storyline is he's Taharqa and his objective is to throw out the invading Hyskos, led by Esharrdon, out of Lower Egypt and Memphis in particular. I'm sure they'll find a way to put a funny and witty line in there. Even in the movie, "Pursuit of Happiness" they managed to put in a good line or two. Anyways look forward to the movie.. in 3 more years.

I'd love to see Adel Imman, ( he looks just like that Old Kingdom statue of the seated scribe) and Mohamed Mounir, but then I guess language would be an issue. Still, It would be nice.

Actually, the movie is based upon the 25th dyansty. Will Smith will be playing the role of Taharqa. Taharqa lead the Egyptians against Assyrian king Eshardon.
The movie is probably going to be a big budget action film. All action and little substance. The only positive that could result would be that more serious ancient Egyptian types movies.
Nobody except for an obscure Egyptian director has attempted to make ancient Egyptian short stories like The Tales of Sinue or the Eloquent Peasant into movies.

Well my biggest fear is that the movie ends on a bad note. Taharqa rescued and restored Egypt heroically but later they got pushed out ultimately by the Hyksos again. It wasn't until another pharaoh from the South was able to liberate Egypt once and for all. If that's the case I'm going to be depressed by the end of the movie. You usually see Will Smith finish in a triumphant role.

He is the one who actually took control of Egypt. The movie is probably going to be a big budget action film. All action and little substance. The only positive that coul result would be that more serious ancient Egyptian types movies. I just hope they do a good job researching the things like costume, architecture etc. It always annoys me to see servants running around wearing nemis headdresses and kings sitting on thrones with the Aten sun disk, or bedrooms with tomb paintings. They just throw things together. It just annoys me because if the do a movie on the 18th century royal French court or Elizabethan England they spare no expence faithfully recreating every single detail down to the underwear, but Egypt, you see servant girls running around in belly dance costumes which weren't invented till the turn of the 20th century by Americans and Europeans I also fear they'll turn it into a freakin mess like Scorpion King or Stargate, shallow and no historical accuracy. Nobody except for an obscure Egyptian director has attempted to make ancient Egyptian short stories like The Tales of Sinue or the Eloquent Peasant into movies. That's a real shame. There are so many wonderful stories waiting to be told, but everyone just goes for the formula, so what we end up with are the same predictable story lines, different cast.

But, if they do a good job teling the story, I guess that would be a good thing. Maybe at a later date they'd do a prequil, (is that even a word?), where they show how the 25th Dynasty began.

Although Hollywood never accurately portrayed ancient Egypt, there have been exceptions, such as a short film entitled The Ancient Egyptians narrated by Jeremey Sisto. The renactments for the short film are taken from actualy papyri. Every intricate detail is taken into account and is a fair portrayal of the ancient Egyptian culture.

Any idea how one could get to see it?
