Juneteenth now a national holiday...what does it mean to you..many might have not grown up knowing about Juneteenth like I did.. but had some buddies from Texas who schooled me in the late 60's about why they acknowledge Juneteenth.. So this is what it means to me..

My mother's ancestors were freed from slavery around Juneteenth. But, my father's ancestors who have my same last name were in the Underground Railroad and the date celebrated is August 1, 1834 which is the day Queen Victory ended slavery in the British Empire. This "Emancipation Day" allowed by ancestors to be free in Canada before 1865.
