www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTvX5IZAvAEI have long wondered who Hypatia really was ? I became aware of this most remarkable women some years ago,in a book on metaphysical teachings which had a painting of her being torn from her chariot by a mob just before they( lynched) killed her . In the picture if I'm remembering it right, she had a swarthy complexion about her. I was viewing a video series on you tube by Dr.Hagins titled "Islam & The Arab Invasion Of Egypt". I do enjoy Dr. Hagins lectures colorful that they may be; he is usually pretty meticulous about his historical facts. He states( in the above you tube video link that I included at about 8:14) that she was an AFRICAN WOMEN ! Now all the pictures of her other than the one I saw years ago, has her looking pretty white, so which is it ? Was she a women of African descent who was Egyptian in Alexander Egypt, between 350 or 370 AD died 414 or 415 ? I really loved the article that djoser-xyyman did on Greco-Roman Egypt . With so many good minds on this forum, I thought I would ask about this this women who was a mathematician, philosopher , & astronomer, plus a brilliant ahead of her time scholar, who died a horrible death !

First we have to find out was she Greek as is claimed or was she Kemetian, to me it makes more sense if she was from a Kemetian family and this is just speculation for I think most Greeks did not like their women folk educated, but the Kemetians had a sense of equality for women going back to Pharaohnic times,if not and her family was in fact Greek then they were extremely liberal.

Anansi, Your response makes good sense, & can be used in constructing a profile that is updated & might help in the mystery of this women.Like most things brilliant, "others" like to claim these individuals for themselves, esp. if they are lost to history by the general public. Their are many examples of this type of "body snatching"! One perfect example, Hannibal, the great general of Carthage. Their is still much confusion with the masses on his real racial identity, for "others" wanting too claim his greatness. It is strange how little one hears about this (sister)Hypatia, I have read that the feminist have claim her as one of their on, which is understandable, but, still her racial identity can get lost by "others" eager to claim her. If with research, I find out conclusively, that she is not of African descent , I can be O.K. with it; but only after all the historical facts are in, mind you !
