One of the posters on the Yahoo group Ta_Seti was kind enough to provide me with the title of Diop's "melanin dosage" test. I've heard about this test, but never knew it was more than a rumor until now. Here's the title and other information about the paper:
La pigmentation des anciens Égyptiens. Test par la mélanine, in Bulletin de l'IFAN, série B, Tome XXXV, n° 3, 1973, pp. 515-531.
If anyone can find the inner text of the paper itself and translate it into English, I and many others in this community will be grateful.

People of a Eurocentric disposition often try to paint Diop as a simple Afrocentric but from reading his book African Origin of Civilization he actively seek out criticism of his work with in the same book by his detractor and in subsequent interviews he asked people to challenge his ideas and not give into bland orthodoxy , that was the first and perhaps only time I have seen that done, the man was a true scientist.
