I wasn't taking issue with what he identifies with 1st. But, it seemed he was making the racism issue lighter than it was. It was almost like he's saying we're jews too so there's not much of a problem. Urrr... obviously there is. And the goal (however undefined) of the coalition seemed to not go past having blacks of whatever ethnic background treated in non-racist way, nothing more. Just seemed like he was more concerned with fitting in the group (wider israeli jewish society) than having the group accept him and his jewish ethiopian kin.

i wouldn't mind going one on one with that punk zimmerman. One of us won't be getting up, but it darn sure won't be me. Oh, man, i hope they wear out his rear in prison (if these fools can even manage to bring a successful case against him).

The cops were suspect from the moment this story came out and the details of this update are freaking ridiculous! Not only was the kid killed because he's black, it's hard for there to even be any justice also because of he's black and the cops too make racist assumptions.

I thought these comments by the ethiopian member of parliament were idiotic. If your identity is so much the same as the other jews then why are your people getting crap from them? Smh. Please, the only reason all those ethiopian jews went to israel is for the much better economic conditions there and the only reason israel brought them there is because they want to increase the jewish population as much as possible because they're surrounded by arab countries and greatly outnumbered. Meanwhile this racist crap is happening, BET has ads on sundays to get donations to pay for "jews" in east europe to move to israel. These ads hope to play on religious feeling of christian black americans. How ironic.

^Allied is too strong a word. They have very friendly relations, yes, but are in no way allies. And why would the US and china fight a proxy war in Sudan? Or even any proxy war for that matter? The US and china make a lot of money together and are economically entwined. This isn't the cold war where two powers were bitterly vying to spread their own world view and system of govt. Also, if the US were so concerned about a proxy war in Sudan then they wouldn't have outed the S. Sudan gov's secret purchase of tanks which were being transported via kenya. Those tanks were stuck in kenya because the US pressured them to not transfer the tanks to S. Sudan because the US was concerned about the growing tension between the Sudans and their increasing armament. And, military bases are for actual wars between opponents, not proxy wars, or else there would be no need for the bases.
I think we too often have a knee-jerk reaction to any American or European involvement in Africa and see all kinds of schemes without enough supportig evidence. We should be wary of Africom, but that isn't the same thing as the few troops who are being sent to C. Africa to give advice to the African countries plagued by the LRA.

I have been reading about this guy for quite awhile now,but nothing seemed to happen no action taken by anyone when will the A.U step up to bat on things like this, why are non Africans at the forefront on issues like this,I have been having bitter arguments with friends of mine who want to focus on the presenter rather than this fiend and the people he traumatized for decades,or have them drowned out in the Geo-politics which is real btw,see the thread on Africom posted by Wisdomasome . egyptsearchreloaded.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=pol&action=display&thread=1100klik me^ The billions of barrels of oil recently found in Uganda,South Sudan have vast reserves, all kinds of maneuvering being taking place,so this is an excuse for Africom to gain a foot hold for permanent bases, all said and done I am a people before profit kinda guy and I wish the A.U would live-up to challenges like the LRA and the continued slaughtering of dark-skinned Africans in Libya, but will they act? or continue to be a pawn in Geo-politics. When has the AU ever stepped up to solve great african conflicts? Individual african leaders or countries have at times accomplished things in this regard but the AU hasn't that I can recall. It's a morally bankrupt and largely toothless org. And as far as Africom being some trojan horse I think you should consider that the west or whomever else gets resources from african countries quite easily without having to have forces on the ground. This isn't the 1800s. There are international markets for raw materials, african govts are willing to sell to gain revenue, and the west has the money to buy. And many african govts will shit on their own ppl to make a profit as has been demonstrated many times before and recently in ethiopa, where 10s of thousands of ppl have been forcibly removed from their land by the govt so that the land can be sold to foreign interests who will set up commercial farms. With international markets for transportable raw materials and callous govts more than willing to give access to stationary resources whatever the harm to the ppl, why would america need to go through expense and set up bases there? They have a base in djibouti and one can see the strategic sense to ensure safe passage through red sea/suez canal from asia. But uganda or s. sudan? Nah!!

The ugandan woman's criticisms are intelligent and well-placed instead of some of the nonsense i've seen posted on egyptsearch about whiteman this and that so we should be suspicious, whiteman causing africans to be as savage as kony, and the kony2012 campaign being part of some larger push to get foreign forces into africa to exploit resources. I bet those same critics were lambasting the west for doing nothing to stop the rwandan genocide. So "the whiteman" gets blamed either way.
Like this ugandan woman, I too was bothered by how the vid made it seem like africans can't help themselves and spoke about how america should be some knight in shining armor when there are african gov'ts there. But, I saw the benefit of the vid more as a way to bring international spotlight to the situation so these african gov'ts have more pressure on them to act. I too also thought the vid focused too much on uganda when the LRA has already been pushed out of there and is marauding in neighboring countries. I hope these central african countries can coordinate their efforts and snuff out the LRA. It'd be nice to see kony's head on a pike but killing the leader of an org doesn't always end the org.

It's upsetting and sad what is happening to libyan blacks and black immigrants in libya. But, i gotta say this article seems to exaggerate things. I particularly find the talk of ethnic cleansing to be spurious. You know how much fighting and bruhaha would have to go on if they tried to cleanse lybia of it's many native blacks? Arresting ppl based on assumptions of guilt due to their race or ethnicity is not ethnic cleansing. The black lybians are still there and aren't being systematically whiped out or pushed out of lybia. Bad things are happening in libya to blacks, particularly the immigrant ones, but this article just over simplifies things and exaggerates reality. We can call attention to grave issues without making them seem worse than they are.
Also, i don't think this article or the media in general differentiate enough between native black libyans and immigrant blacks. The latter are the ones who are most in danger as they are obviously foreigners and so more open to be viewed as among the mercenaries qaddaffi used. They are also huddled in ad hoc settlements under desparate conditions while I see native blacks on tv with the rest of libyans cheering for qadafi's downfall without having to flee to a settlement. Have any african countries with migrants in libya had a serious talk with the gov on the conditions of their citizens?

Anansi, Obama doesn't control who heads any committee in congress. Senior congressional members of the parties do. He can lobby the senior members of his party but that's it.
Fox news is a joke. That panelist went too far with that whitney houston comment.

Good article Jari. It's clear from the article that the dip in general white support for the democrats is either unrelated or at best marginally related to Obama as that low level of support is not different from the fluctuations that have historically happened. I take a bit of an issue with what you wrote here though: The tea party ppl and their ilk never supported Obama in the 1st place as they are extreme conservatives so there's no way he lost support among them because he never had it. He has lost support among white liberals. And this isn't limited to white liberals as it's the same with all liberals and even among centrists. The whole occupy movement was by liberals, especially ultra liberals (and as was apparent from video most of them were white). They had serious issues with the gov't and especially with how the Obama administration bailed out the banks with no punishment. White liberals, like all other liberals, have been voicing great disappointment about how Obama has no back bone b/c he didn't go far enough with the health care bill and hasn't dismantled guantanamo and is continuing many of the Bush "counterrorism" policies they didn't like. So to say white liberal support for Obama hasn't dipped is off base. This cnn poll from november shows that support has fallen among white liberals specifically politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/11/23/cnn-poll-blue-collar-democrats-support-for-obama-drops/Note, this poll asked for views on Obama specifically and only asked registered Dems or independents who usually side with the Dems. Here too, the dip was mainly by non-college grad whites but these people are either liberals or liberal leaning centrists. These working class white liberals tended to support Hillary instead of Obama in the primaries.

At the end of the day, and I don't mean to sound insensitive, but no one cares about Gitmo and Wiretaps, or one Bradley Manning. That's ish that many people in the Black and Latin community don't care about. It's one of those luxury issues that people complain about once they stop worrying about education, health care, and their next meal (i.e., the bread and butter). Urrr... I know a bunch of black ppl who care about gitmo, wire taps and bradley manning. Especially those blacks who know about the cointelpro program and other insidious deeds of the gov't. Yes, most blacks and lats (and whites too) focus only on bread and butter issues. And, there's much in the bread & butter issues that liberals have complained about; for example, the health care bill being watered down too much, the banks being bailed out without punishment, and the economy not recovering much. Whether or not you agree with the substance of their complaints, these are bread & butter issues that they're upset about so it's not trivial.

Jari, I think you're wondering the same thing I am. It's not clear from the excerpt of the article if she's referring to "white liberals" only or just to any white who supported Obama in the election (which would be incorrect because not all whites who voted for Obama were liberal as many were centrists). However, there has indeed been a severe drop in support for Obama and this is from liberals and centrists (conservatives didn't vote for Obama). But the polls that show a drop in support for Obama is an indication of a drop in enthusiasm, not whether or not ppl will vote for Obama. Liberals, if they don't abstain, will still vote for Obama as the other choice revolts them. Centrists who voted for Obama previously, though, may jump ship to the republican candidate.
I don't like when ppl just automatically shout racism when there isn't much of any indication that that is involved and many other obvious explanations are there. Obama couldn't in a few yrs have launched from a jr senator to defeating a popular democratic candidate for the nomination if racism were prevalent among "white liberals".

africurious: ^I mentioned King because everyone holds him to the highest of standards yet if he wasn't perfect, it automatically follows based on that reasoning that no one is. Why in the hell would I COMPARE the two, c'mon now. OK, that makes sense. Idk you that well so I wasn't sure because I've seen a lot of blacks act like Obama is in the King category. Well, the governor's actions were just over the top and a political gimmick to score points. He rightfully didn't tolerate her foolishness. The guy's shouting that Obama was a liar I'm not sure was related to his race. Many have said or wondered this but I can't see how it's apparent from the actions. I wouldn't be surprised it were racial in part though because that's common on the far right. It's fairly obvious to all but the blind and those in denial that there is racism among conservatives in their opposition to obama, however, the article and I were talking about white liberals. These people voted for Obama and supported him. Their enthusiasm for him has waned considerably and the article is saying it's cuz of his race and i'm saying it's not. I don't care if racism comes from liberals or conservatives but we were talking about liberals only. A lot of the nasty stuff from the conservatives upset me but I haven't gotten into it because it was unrelated to this topic. Liberals wouldn't have voted for McCain. Centrist who lean democratic would've though. And, liberals aren't the ones demonizing Obama. It's the conservatives. Liberals, especially far left ones, do criticize him a whole lot though. The things in Brada's post aren't important to you but most of them are important to many people who voted for obama. That's why it's not just nit picking.
