I think something that needs to be stressed is how much we stereotype North Africa. Just as we realize that there is a great deal of physical diversity in Sub Saharan Africa, we must also realize that there is a great deal of physical diversity in North Africa as well. Looking at all these pictures of Berbers from various regions of North Africa clearly demonstrates this reality. So the next time someone tries to put North Africans in a basket with terms like "Arab type", Mediterranean type" etc, we need to remind them that there is no such thing.

While I agree 100% about the features statement, how do we know these people are close to their indigenous ancestors, as opposed to the modern day heavily admixed people who live there now?

How do you know they're not? I don't, but we do know about the admixture in the north. Just curious. If only someone had a time machine....

who are they admixture from and how they get it? Central Asians, Europeans, etc from conquest (primarily..) Most of kabylia was independent from the ottomen turks, and they turk who came to north africa still live there they do not leave or mix and they look different from the north african around them retaining their turk features As for europeans well the vandal theory, have you seen kabyle people? They look not like the north europeans a small few looking like south european like a sicily or a greek the french invade after war they get kicked out You do not mention most admixture coming from and that is from sub saharan africa people brought north by tuareg slavery or migration and other thing (the caravans bring more than 15 million slaves north compare that to 1 and a half european slaves captured by piracy) you believe in the DNA yeah? well if you believe in it they say berber and arab in north africa have more than one tenth admixture and someone else say they have less than 2 percent european admixture The spanish Muslims that get kick out by catholics they still live in north africa like the turks not inter marry they look different than other north african too

And a considerable percentage of Afro Americans are admixed with various Europeans and Native American groups, yet we can still discerne that they are African. While there has been mixture in North Africa, it wasn't as extencive as people think. A lot of what we see there is regional adaptation. The fact that the different Berber groups often have a distinct facial structure one from the other and varying skin tones I think speaks volumes. 9 times out of 10 I can spot the difference between an Egyptian, an Algerian and a Moroccan. They don't all look the same, don't have the same facial structures. Given this reality and the fact that Egyptian depictions showed both pale and dark skinned Lybians, (Berbers), this diversity has been in place for a very, very, very long time. Way before any Phoenician ever set foot on North African soil.
