ESR members if you are a movie or documentary fanatic this is the place for YOU!! to share your movie experience with the rest of us through critique and recommendations,as you know there is always a sub text, the politics behind the making of a movie or documentary should be discussed even if visually the movie or doc sucked, the messaging might be profound,so I'll start off. A band of pirates from Somalia attacked a cargo ship the U.S responds, for those who read about this real life story from a couple of yrs ago know how this ends and it didn't end well for the pirates,at the time the media..well at-least US media herald this as a great military success but leave out the reason for the rise of piracy in that part of the world and the reason and consequence behind that failed state, the movie hinted at it but gave no details such as toxic dumping in their waters by other nations and over fishing depriving them of a lively hood..while I am happy that the capt got back home to his family and his crew came out ok,I didn't feel a sense of triumphalism of seeing a bunch of Africans getting their heads blown off given the situation they came.

?Did you watch the trailer clip? Ok now I did but its confusing and I dont think there will be action any It's confusing to you because you are still unfamiliar with certain aspects of American social/political history and culture, as well as Afro American history and culture and the relationship with the dominant culture. When you have more of a foundation and have watched more films in this gener it will make more sense. You may want to watch certain films like The Watermelon Man, The Immitation of life, Do the right thing, Schoole Daze to name a few. Anyone else have any suggestions? There are dozens of them out there.

Shuja Kenya. Shuga Nija This is a pretty good series about modern urban living in Africa it deals with such issues as Hiv the hopes and dreams of the young yearning to be successful striving to become part of the Elite, the series started out in Nairobi Kenya then pick-up again in Lagos Nigeria the first series starred Lupita Nyong'o of 12yrs A Slave fame, remember this are two separate series although there is some over lap..hope you enjoy..

Producers Rasheed Newsome T.J Bardy and director Omar Madha. Trust me trailer did not do it justice it looked like yet another movie about teens with issues which is there but it is as unforgiving as Hunger Games and as gritty as the remake of Battle Star Galactica I was pleasantly surprised, hard and sometimes noble but wrong choices are made with very huge consequences.
