Maybe in 2030 they'll finally make it again? Lol. Wish we could match our prowess in track in soccer.

But my God... Brazil's miserable defeat. 7-1 That first goal at the last 10mins felt so petty

Over at ES- aninteresting take on it. IN 1950 Brazil reached the final and suffered a narrow defeat. The black goalkeeper Barbosa was reviled and scapegoated though a porus defence shares equal blame. Brazil had an "informal" ban on black goalkeepers for decades after. Fast forward to 2014, and they are blown out 7-1 on home ground a far worse defeat than 1950- indeed one of the worse Wcup blowouts of all time. Barbosa's daughter calls it poetic justice for how much of Brazilian society treated her father. Don;t agree with the 'white' defense bit per se but it does seem a bit of what goes around comes around. ----------------------------------------------------------------------

PORTUGUESE TRANSLATION globoesporte.globo.com/ESP/Notícia/Arquivo/0,,AA1291817-4840,00-DIDA O HOMEM QUE QUEBROU O TABU.html ------------------------------------------------- Dida, the man who broke the taboo against black goalkeepers Rodrigo Sirico | Source: GLOBOESPORTE.COM ] RIO - It took 56 years, but the Brazilian team again have a black as starting goalkeeper in the World Cup. After the failure of Barbosa in 1950, Dida defended the Brazilian goal in the German Cup, in 2006 and, like Barbosa, Brazil failed to take the title. Even just before the competition, Dida talked about the possibility of erasing the history of the execration Barbosa, who was chased to the end of life because of the alleged failure on the second Uruguayan goal in 1950. - Glad to break a taboo of over 50 years. This is important. He was sacrificed much for having this horrible thing happened in that final. There is much talk of Barbosa for what happened in that game - Dida said even before the 2006 World Cup. The analysis of the keeper, who usually speaks little, goes straight to the main point: the great career Barbosa was overshadowed because of the end of 1950. Even after that Cup, the good performances of goalkeeper Barbosa as Vasco remained exalted, specifically by the year 1957, when he quit football. However, with the passage of time and the achievements of Brazil (1958 and 1962), the image of former goalkeeper was already being labeled exclusively as a loser. - In Brazil, a crime prescribes 30 years. But I'm paying my crime today - Barbosa said, shortly before becoming ill and eventually died in 2000. Other black goalkeepers have reached short passages after selection by Barbosa. Velvet, of Fluminense , was reserve in 1954. Infant, who was brown, came to play a game as a starter in the 1966 World Cup. Besides them, Lula, Jairo, Tobias and Acacio also wore hopscotch over short periods. Dida, the latest before the new double Gomes and Helton, became captain of Brazil in the game against Japan in the 2006 World Cup. Goalkeeper Milan was still in the bank Cups in 1998 and 2002 (champion) led the medal bronze in the 1996 Olympics and was world champion under-20 in 1993 as owner.
