Came back from Uganda/Rwanda back in August. Also been to South Africa(3x), Tanzania(2x), Ethiopia and Kenya. Heading to South Africa, Mozambique and FINALLY Egypt in February of next year. Being on the continent certain perspective changes.... Again ask me anything.

How have the locals in the different African countries received you as an African-American? Depends on the country. South Africans were the most curious. Ugandans were somewhat interested. The rest were neutral but none were hostile besides Tanzanians who get annoyed if you don't know Swahili and people in Nairobi who are just rude in general. |

I've seen some videos in recent years saying there's all sorts of rude annoying behavior going on in Egypt these days
but of course the ancient sites outweigh that stuff

I heard the begging is worse than Addis Ababa, and that city had the worst begging I've encountered overseas. This is why to me Egypt is an "in and out" trip. Going to do Cairo and Aswan(plus Abu Simbel). Luxor, I'll probably do another trip. |
