Message to the African American Community

The time has come to resurrect Pan-Africanism while learning from the missteps of its past champions, including Marcus Garvey. Recently, Pan-Africanism seems to have lost momentum, often replaced by divisive rhetoric that distances many from their African roots. This past election has shown, once again, that we, as Black Americans, do not have enough true allies, let alone "ride-or-die" supporters. Moving forward, we must prioritize relying on ourselves. Marcus Garvey understood this, as did Malcolm X, or el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz.

I’m not suggesting a shift in religion or identity; in fact, I would personally advise against it. But we need to ask ourselves: what can we do for ourselves before others attempt to decide for us? Remember, we are short on friends. I say, look to Africa. This journey will not be without challenges; there will be cultural differences to navigate, and we absolutely do not want a repeat of Liberia’s painful history. Yet, we need that connection, if for nothing else, to create an option for those of us who feel the need to leave when tensions escalate here.

I don’t claim to have all the answers, but our history in America has shown that the status quo is not likely to work in our favor. Despite the centuries of blood, sweat, and tears we have invested in this country, we’re continually reminded by some that they see us as occupying a station “beneath” them, if not buried beneath them entirely. Perhaps in a new space—perhaps in Africa—we could make a fresh start. It is not easy to consider leaving the only country many of us have ever known, but in times like these, as we peer into the abyss, we have to weigh all options.

The African Union (AU) is a continental union of 55 member states[8] located on the continent of Africa. The AU was announced in the Sirte Declaration in Sirte, Libya, on 9 September 1999, calling for the establishment of the African Union. The bloc was launched on 9 July 2002 in Durban, South Africa.[9] The intention of the AU was to replace the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), established on 25 May 1963 in Addis Ababa by 32 signatory governments; the OAU was disbanded on 9 July 2002. The most important decisions of the AU are made by the Assembly of the African Union, a semi-annual meeting of the heads of state and government of its member states.



The AU's secretariat, the African Union Commission, is based in Addis Ababa. The largest city in the AU is Lagos, Nigeria while the largest urban agglomeration is Cairo, Egypt.

The objectives of the African Union are:


1) To achieve greater unity, cohesion and solidarity among the African countries and African nations.

2)To defend the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of its Member States.

3) To accelerate the political and social-economic integration of the continent.

4) To promote and defend African common positions on issues of interest to the continent and its peoples.

5) To encourage international cooperation, taking due account of the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

6) To promote peace, security, and stability on the continent.

7) To promote democratic principles and institutions, popular participation and good governance.

8) To promote and protect human and peoples' rights in accordance with the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights and other relevant human rights instruments.

9)To establish the necessary conditions which enable the continent to play its rightful role in the global economy and in international negotiations.

10) To promote sustainable development at the economic, social and cultural levels as well as the integration of African economies.

11) To promote co-operation in all fields of human activity to raise the living standards of African people.

12) To coordinate and harmonise the policies between the existing and future Regional Economic Communities for the gradual attainment of the objectives of the Union.

13)To advance the development of the continent by promoting research in all fields, in particular in science and technology.

14) To work with relevant international partners in the eradication of preventable diseases and the promotion of good health on the continent.


The African Union is made up of both political and administrative bodies. The highest decision-making organ is the Assembly of the African Union, made up of all the heads of state or government of member states of the AU. The Assembly is chaired by Félix Tshisekedi, President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The AU also has a representative body, the Pan-African Parliament, which consists of 265 members elected by the national legislatures of the AU member states. Its president is Roger Nkodo Dang.



Pan-African Parliament (PAP)

To become the highest legislative body of the African Union. The seat of the PAP is at Midrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. The Parliament is composed of 265 elected representatives from all 55 AU states, and intended to provide popular and civil-society participation in the processes of democratic governance. Its president is Roger Nkodo Dang, of Cameroon.

Why do Black Americans love Ghana more than Nigeria in General?

Hi, I am not angry at where black Americans choose but I think they are making a big mistake when it comes to the choice of where to move in Africa.
African Americans should be looking to benefit economically from Africa rather than coming for vacation, Ghana as a country is still too small to offer them what they seek.
They should be integrating with African trade, agriculture, entertainment and real estate, I don't think Ghana is ripe for that Market.
I wish they moved to Nigeria there would have been more famous than what we see in the media right now, and a lot of collaborations, endorsement deals and business proposals would have happened.
Just saying though, there is a reason Nigeria is called the giant of Nigeria, though we are not perfect we have the worst of leaders, and we are even going to have a coup soon, cos our election was a violation of human rights, but inwardly Nigerians are people who can make things happen.

I’m Nigerian. I’ve been to Accra a couple of times recently. The basic infrastructure necessary for daily living in Nigeria is barely existent. No water, no light. Nigerians are used to living like this, having to be one’s own mini government in your house, providing yourself with water and electricity.
Which foreigner that isn’t yet earning crazy money wants to come and start over in such a manner?
Ghana isn’t perfect but their government is actually doing their best to make the country attractive to outsiders.
Even just landing in Lagos airport feels like the Hunger Games. Is today the day you will safely and successfully walk past immigration, NDLEA, and the other 4/5 agencies, without any form of harassment. Then will you make it safely and successfully to your destination without being stopped and harassed by policemen or Lastma on the roads.
Biko make we dey face front and talk true. Even foreign investment, an area where Nigeria was hugely attractive, our government is making less and less attractive.
We never even talk security or recurrent fuel queues. And God help you if na Lagos you come settle, traffic will join to help reduce the years of your life God has blessed you with.

African Americans in Ghana live in communities isolated from the local population. They are indistinguishable from the Chinese, Lebanese, Indians, and other foreigners who live in Ghana. In addition, the country of Liberia was founded by African Americans who basically enslaved the native African population. Why are you assuming they'll share the same interests and values as Nigerians? For context, blacks have been living in America longer than whites have been living in South Africa.

One can criticize the African Union but they are the political entity that that is currently closest to an organization in Africa with a Pan-African agenda and with the most power in Africa . 
Africa is a huge continent. I think a more effective political union might be of several countries not the whole of Africa
And the county that would have the most opportunity for African Americans to get involved with is a separate issue to an extent

In my opinion African Americans need to look at what countries in the world hold the most opportunity for them in the coming years. America or outside of America? 
Same thing for white Americans 
As for Trump winning and making changes we will have to wait for the first few months to see what he will do and what he can do.
Some may argue the changes could be positive, others negative

All of the above, for me personally retiring if I start a business it will be small, others however should go bigger and bolder.

And yes while there will be problems with existing infrastructure, therein lays an opportunity to get in the ground floor, I agree with one of the link that have AAs living separately from the Africans, they must avoid that, as I said we can't come as colonizers in Black face, which was the cause of issues with Liberia.

Trump wants to oust not only illegal immigrants but also the Haitians of Springfield who are legal because he thinks they should not have been given protective status.
At the same time there has been a hard to slow down flood of immigrants but some benefit the economy (including illegal ones who work for lees pay) and deportation plans also have a price tag. 
I'm looking above, plans to cut certain Medicaid benefits etc. various things that could be very controversial.

This is the big question for me. Either Trump will always be concerned with broad popularity so he may not go as far as he brags about.

When I watch Hezbollah and Hamas praise their resistance fighters and martyrs, and then compare the subpar mobilization efforts to help Mutulu Shakur when the US government was bullying him and making him suffer during his last years, I know that we have lots of ways to go when it comes to getting organized.

Personally I would do a stand alone restaurant, Covid did me dirty, but upon on hanging up my apron, and living somewhere else and i'd have to consider where, although Ghana is the fore runner, a stand alone would not be difficult a franchize maybe a different story, but in any case it should be done, another thing would be for HBCUs and the University of the W.I have an exchange student relationship with African Universities that would be a boon to Pan-Africanism , which may include homestays, have visiting professors doing stints at each other's institutions, in this way we literally get to know each other, this will be a process not an event.

As for lobbying bombs? well it might seem sexy , but in reality how effective is it, asymmetrical warfare do have it's limits, and one thing is for certain, them folks is all about the genocide.

I see. Would you consider Japan good enough to stay there, or do you feel anything short of 'going home' (to the continent), like 2005 Dave Chapelle, is not going to be good enough?

I agree. Warfare is not an option. We should stand our ground and close ranks where necessary (see Montgomery racial brawl), but anything that stands in the way of dealing with longer term plans to reinvent, reorient, rethink in light of the increasingly hostile, anti-minority, world is not going to help us. 

Here is what I see as not helping us (see below). Others can make their own list of what they think is going to be destructive (or constructive) to our well being, going forward.

Picking up arms, like Christopher Jordan Dorner. Destructive, but, at the same time, he should not be forgotten (see #4 why he should not be forgotten).

Becoming a pawn in other people's struggles (getting too involved in politics, like blacks dropped by universities over Gaza; enlisting in the army for reasons other than straightening's one's life out; joining groups/parties/gangs w/ ongoing rivalries; advocating on social media for rappers and athletes we don't even know; spending money in stores where the owners don't respect us as a customer).

Not understanding priorities and the levels to life. This includes wasting time with short term goals before or after you've reached a stage in life, where that makes sense. Partying and sleeping and dating around. Hanging on the streets. Investing a lot of time in social relationships, and neglecting personal development. There are levels to life where these 'negatives' make sense and where they stop making sense. Most of us black regular posters from ES have done the above at one point or another (judging from various comments over the years). But I like to think we've found a way to sort out our priorities, as we wouldn't be here pursuing intellectual topics, otherwise.

Not being a student of history. A lot of players in this world (governments, scientific/educational institutions, political parties, fashion brands, old family names/dynasties), have longer lifespans than we do. This inevitably means that they have learned, over time, to hide their true faces and skeletons in their closets. Only by becoming a student of history, can we navigate life informed about these parties and players. If he's correct, Kanye's recent rants about Jews running (the contracts of) African American entertainers, fit here. If he's correct, Maj. David Grusch' comments during his 2023 congressional hearing, fit here. Understanding how different nations alive today have historically interacted with Africans, fits here. For instance, Phoenicians allegedly circumnavigated Africa and traded with natives along the coastlines, and did so w/ win/win situations. I don't think its a coincidence that certain other groups have never treated Africans with the same level of respect during encounters. As a black person, you might want to have this type of info in the back of your mind, as you deal w/ different groups.

Not taking control of one's own education/development as a life-long goal. Even just a regular readups of bios, to emulate success stories. That would be easy to do, yet, rewarding. But taken to more serious/advanced levels, this will open up your mind and reset one's compass in life, to better and more rewarding areas of life, so that backward activities and situations cannot tempt or ensnare you.
