Excellent initiative. I am from Ghana and married to a British black woman whose parents are originally from Jamaica. One thing I leant being married to a Diasporan black is the ignorance that divides. Discussions like this is important to bring us close together. Hope the initiative takes off.

Energy, ! think it is a model( initiative ) that could help us greatly in the 21 century for better understanding & unification ! Well we had created such get together under the guise of a pot luck(everyone had to supply food from their native lands.) between Africans from the continent and the diaspora although we were not very polite got heated at times, especially the first get together as there was no females in attendance and there was a no holes barred kind of atmosphere, but so therapeutic and informative there was no question of if we have another pot luck but when, the conversation varied between politics/God/business/history/sex/ Race&Racism and we had brothers from all walks of life from atheist to a Christian minster,I could tell the kind of evening we were going to have when the Christian minister wanted us to bow our heads in prayer before eating, the atheist cut loose the Muslims wanted their own prayers and the rest of us just wanted to eat but we compromised and closed our eyes and reflected in silence. The next Pot luck while still animated was a bit tamer largely because the sisters showed up but we learnt alot from them too about issues they have with care products such as make-up in a land that don't usually have such for black women and the issues of dating for those who were single, and how the single brothers were spoiled..but in the the end it bought us all closer together where else could an Ethiopian break bread with a Somali.. ;D
