Are you serious?! They actually had the balls to say something like that?! What about the film Will Smith was making? Any news on that?

Concerning Danny Glover , is the film made & sitting on the shelf ? Or is he still trying to fiance the film for production ?
Truthteacher , Are you referring to Will Smith suppose making a blockbuster film about Taharqa ? The last i heard production is to start in 2013.This film is going to be hard to make no matter who is making or staring in it. I'll believe it, when i see it ! But Will Smith seems more focused on his daughter Willow, & getting a remake of "Annie" with her in the staring role at this time.
AFFRM is for independent films that have been made & need distribution into the major black markets.

Are you serious?! They actually had the balls to say something like that?! What about the film Will Smith was making? Any news on that? I ain't kidding and sometimes some of my more liberal friends Black and White said things like Ebony and Jet or African American oriented out lets are not really needed today because that's soo 1960ts ,what I have to keep reminding them is alot of people kept that mindset and are still in-charge today! Paris.– US actor Danny Glover, who plans an epic next year on Haitian independence hero Toussaint-Louverture, said he slaved to raise funds for the movie because financiers complained there were no white heroes. "Producers said 'It's a nice project, a great project... where are the white heroes?'" he told the press during a stay in Paris this month for a seminar on film. "I couldn't get the money here, I couldn't get the money in Britain. I went to everybody. You wouldn't believe the number of producers based in Europe, and in the States, that I went to," he said. D"The first question you get, is 'Is it a black film?' All of them agree, it's not going to do good in Europe, it's not going to do good in Japan. "Somebody has to prove that to be a lie!", he said. "Maybe I'll have the chance to prove it." "Toussaint," Glover's first project as film director, is about Francois Dominique Toussaint Louverture (1743-1803), a former slave and one of the fathers of Haiti's independence from France in 1804, making it the first black nation to throw off imperial rule and become a republic. The uprising he led was bloodily put down in 1802 by 20,000 soldiers dispatched to the Caribbean by Napoleon Bonaparte, who then re-established slavery after its ban by the leaders of the French Revolution. Due to be shot in Venezuela early next year, the film will star Don Cheadle, Mos Def, Wesley Snipes and Angela Bassett. www.dominicantoday.com/dr/this-and-that/2008/7/26/28807/Danny-Glovers-Haiti-film-lacked-white-heroes-producers-saidHannibal never got made despite all the hooplaa about it a few yrs back as a matter of fact two movies were supposedly in the works for that one starring Denzel Washington and the other Vin Diesel both never got made,However a snowwhite Lord of The Rings got made, an equally snow white Troy got made this time they excised Memmon and his 10,000 Ethiopians from the movie although an important character in the mythology afterall he was nephew to Priam of Troy which would make the royal family of Troy.."ahem" ..you see were this is leading.. ;D In the more recent Clash Of the Titans Andromeda and her people are bleached of their pigment result snow white production. I really doubt Taharka will ever get made no movie show casing classic African civilizations ever does not in Hollywood anyways hopefully the Nigerians will take up the challenge as soon as they get the technical stuff on lock down.

If any one knows the ends & outs of independent film making it is Danny Glover! I had heard about the project a while back but have not heard any thing until your post about it yesterday. It is a shame that he can't get the fiance together to make this much needed film about a historical figure that needs his story told on the big screen.
Until their is black infrastructure to fiance & green light a film such as, this or a Hannibal, Taharka, Memmon, etc. I fear they will never be made. To think the one Black man in Hollywood that could make such films, or at least help fiance such films, if he had the brains & stones to do so, is Tyler Perry !!
I do not understand why people like a Bob Johnson, Oprah, Will Smith J-Z & the likes, do not go ahead & create such an Black Hollywood infrastructure to tell the story of the Black experience is beyond me ! Why they could set up shop in South Africa or Brazil. We might just have to wait on Nigeria( Nollywood ) to get up to speed or even help them with technical & financial support !

Oprah could but she ain't gonna,if it's not about abusive black men forget it, Tyler Perry??.. Nesben..really??? Will Smith may be a good bet but does he have the clout and $$ do this? he may end up begging like Danny Glover,And oh the Nigerians got the money it's the Technique I would worry about.

Tyler Perry you asked Forbes list for 2011; Tyler Perry is second wealthiest man behind James Cameron in Hollywood. So as far as money, he's got it. With a dress, or with out ! Perry is not one of my favorites, but facts are facts.( Who made him wealthy? Black folks) As goes Spike Lee. I felt really bad for him & all that he had to go through to finance his film Miracle At St. Anna. He had to go all the way to Europe to get this film financed with a lots of asking & being turned down before someone said yes, to him .I was behind him a 100 percent in his efforts to portray Black men as heroes in WW11 (from a real event) or just to show them in the war at all. But I feel his film suffered badly because it seemed that he might have been totally drained by time he began shooting this film. It could have been a great film, but it misses the mark for a Spike Lee film of excellence ! I went ahead & bought the DVD anyway to help his sales of the film.

I know he have the money but does he have the temperament with or without the dress to do this, and lets be honest here do we want this, I mean apart from like minded folks like you and I do the general African American public want this? or are we just concerned with things Black Americana!!(especially the comedic and the musical) and listen to what Spike had to say about Rose Wood not being received and he is not the only one that took note of that Pay attention to time 2;43 this professor had to pay his collage students to go see Rose Wood while the line to Booty call was packed. what I am trying to say is are we an actual minority within the African American community who would appreciate this.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=RypVmBm3bCw This is the film I'm waiting to see in January produced by George Lucus & directed by a Black man. I had wrote a reply back, but for some reason the reply button was stuck,& I could not post it; so this is a short version of what i wrote. Yes, I agree about Tyler Perry & temperament & Dr. Bey makes some excellent points about the response to Rosewood, which was a very powerful film ! I'm kind of pissed that I could not post my original response; o well such is life !

Great he did say he would make a movie about the Tuskegee Airmen the and the fact he used an African American director is a plus with his name on the screen credit a guaranteed hit. For the time being at-least like it or not we need a Hollywood big wig dare I say it??..white to get movies you and I would like to get made which is a sad state of affairs, but like you said O well such is life. Btw Youtube is doing maintenance on it's site so responding or even liking a clip may not go through.

Red Tails still will depend on Black turn out to make it a bankable film & to send Hollywood a message that ya, we can support these kinds of films ! I usually don't go to the movies any more, I just wait till they come out on DVD, but I'm hauling my butt down to the movie house to see this film . I want my ticket( Vote) to count LOL
