Scott basically seems to make out that he means well and that if he'd picked people of colour for the film, its less likely it would receive funding. There are plenty of big name black actors he could of chosen that I would of thought are equally, if not more well known than the two lead males - prior to hearing about Exodus, I had no idea who Joel Edgerton was. Scott's reasoning seems like a cop out to me.

Hollywood is owned and operated by Jews. It's not like they're going to invalidate their own existence, is it? If they had casted the movie with all African actors (which would be historically accurate) , then people would start to ask questions about what all those pale-skinned people are doing in Israel and the surrounding regions. Hollywood, and mainstream media in general, are never going to do anything which may illegitimitize the existence of the state of Israel.

It' an old ploy that has been used forever; "their were no qualified black workers to do the job","could not find any Blacks for the work" etc. I used to have a lots of respect for Ridley Scott, as a film maker, but not after this. What does he think people are, fools ? He is stuck in an old racist paradigm of the past & is supporting the status Quo of white male privilege. These kind of film makers really have no real" vision" or real understanding of ancient history & the time period in which this biblical (myth ) takes place. I was surprised at how many in the comment section of this article, see the Exodus story as myth, & not real historical fact. So if many modern sophisticated people no longer see this as gospel truth, or fact why not give it a new interpretation by having the stones to cast actors of African descent from the diaspora, who come in a broad ranges of hues, to populate this film esp. as the ancient Egyptians. One can find many a fine actors both male & female with the acting chops & star power to bring in the young, historically aware,& sophisticated audiences, to make up for those old tired white historically unaware whites & others ; they would make a killing at the box office, but like Scott, are to afraid, to make that gamble, they would rather make a flop than take the a chance & make something that would truly me groundbreaking & expand the possibilities of film making, in others words they would settle for mediocrity than greatness ! Have you noticed that their has not been a big budget film concerning ancient Egypt for many years. For they know it is dangerous waters to do so, since the growing awareness about the real identity of the ancient Egyptians has only grown in the past 20 years or so; Scott felt he could break the fever along with his arrogance,& make such a film as Exodus: Gods & Kings, for all the CGI in the world, can not hide the truth about this racist film !

Strangely enough Scott may have a case,I remember Spielberg complaining he had a hard time raising money to make Red Tails and Danny Glover still having problems raising cash to make Toussaint, he did not say there weren't any qualified black just that the powers that be would't fund a major film with a majority Black cast. how ever I do believe he is in fact B/Sing us for he went as far as remodeling the sphinx to make it looked European.

Anansi, they( Hollywood executives) don't like to bank most all Black cast films, for they say they do not do well overseas. For If a film does not do well state side, they like to recoup their money over seas.Do you remember" The Chronicles Of Riddick " staring Ven Diesel, which had a multiracial cast which did very, well, both in the states, & overseas, so I'm not totally buying that excuse. I really don't think Ridley Scott, even ever, thought of a multiracial cast for this film. All of the villains , low lives,& slaves of this film are Black, so that lets me know how he views people of African descent .

With twice the election of Obama, the racist have tried to use it to their advantage to push their agenda forward. What they didn't figure out in their agenda was the intelligence of the masses. I for one think this continue washing up of history has something to do with "the middle east". How do you get continual support when historical facts don't much with the current events?

The reasoning Snakepit gave is the same given by Zink, of JAMA fame, - such work might yield politically sensitive information about the genetic origin of the pharaohs, and whether any of their descendants are alive today. "This goes right to their history."

I've seen a documentary that was about the four big studios & the men that made them, but, it never went in depth about what made these Jewish men & women; & the impact on the films that they made, as this documentary did. It was very telling how they used African American culture as entry into the American mainstream & the promotion of disregarding of one's on ethnic & cultural identity for a nondescript American white identity in their films, that worked on a very subconscious level .

No doubt there might be some basis in reality for that particular stereotype, but I'm still not sure what Israel/Jewish people will get out of AE being shown as European looking ?

The continual support of the west, specially the USA. If the majority of the people think the ancient Hebrews were of European stock, then the current situation in the Mid East is justify. It's all political. You have to remember in the bible it says Moses and many others passed for Egyptians.
